DIY Car - MCVT Georgia Institute of Technology
MCVT stands for Making Computing Visible and Tangible. It refers to our design stance that values the beauty and transparency of seeing the inner workings of technical and computational systems including electrical and mechanical components by hands-on making experiments. This research project is developing a kit of materials and parts to support inclusive computing education and study how our tools and culturally-relevant design activities influence youth practices, participation, and changes to technical competency beliefs.
Using what I learned from the motor card in this kit, I produced an application example. This example uses a wire coil as the motor for a paper car. I also used capacitive touch to make the motor go and act as the "gas pedal". The purpose of this example is to show the kids that they can create their own fun application of this technology.
